FRED WHELAN and GLADYS STONE are executive search and coaching professionals. They opened Whelan Stone in 1999 to provide a more effective approach to executive search.

Fred Whelan

FRED WHELAN began his career in packaged goods marketing, rising to management level positions with H. J. Heinz and Clorox. He then embarked on a 15-year stint in advertising with J. Walter Thompson/SF. He joined the Stratford Group search firm in 1995, significantly growing the Consumer & High Tech Marketing Practices before becoming the Managing Director.

Fred has an MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from the University of Delaware.

Gladys Stone

GLADYS STONE brings to Whelan Stone a strong background in human resources and financial management, in a variety of industries. After an impressive tenure with the law firm of Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold as Director of Human Resources, she joined the Stratford Group search firm in the High-Technology Marketing Practice. Gladys continues to leverage her background and go beyond typical search parameters by providing HR counsel to her clients.

Gladys has a BA from San Francisco State University.

Gordon Chiang

GORDON CHIANG has extensive experience in corporate talent acquisition and executive search. Throughout his career, Gordon has achieved a record of success in meeting client goals. He has conducted senior-level searches in high technology marketing, product management, professional services and sales. He joins Whelan Stone from Visa, Inc. where he led recruiting for multiple client organizations. Prior to that, Gordon worked in a boutique search firm following his tenure in the High Tech Marketing Practice at Stratford Group.

He is a Masters ranked cyclist and has competed internationally.

Gordon has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Whelan Stone Giving Back

Whelan Stone works with Students Rising Above, a Bay Area non-profit helping low-income, first generation college students get their degrees.

We mentor a number of these students as they are about to enter the workplace, and help them with resume development and interviewing skills. We work with companies to create internship opportunities for these young people. The students we work with have inspiring stories to tell about overcoming adversity and a strong desire to have a positive impact on society.
